Freeman
Center, formerly known as the "Display Block" is bounded
by Lincoln, 2nd avenue and Steam Plant Alley. The property includes
storefronts at 916-930 W. 2nd Ave, as well as 170 S. Lincoln. Located
directly across from Steam Plant Square this project creates a gateway
to a revitalized downtown and the technical nerve center known as
the terabyte triangle.
The project
will be completed in two phases, the first consisting of 26,550
square feet in the buildings located on 2nd ave., phase two will
be located in the 6 story building that is currently home to the
"Display house". On April 1st , the "Display House"
located at 170 S. Lincoln will move into new quarters, at that time
an additional 35,000 square feet will be renovated, bringing the
project total to 61,550 square feet. Phase one is expected to be
complete by the Spring of 2001, with work to be wrapped up on the
second phase sometime around January of 2002.
The renovated
building will provide "liner" office/retail space along
2nd ave. with "back office space" offering fully wired
high tech telecommunications and state of the art internet connectivity.
The Freeman
Center was named in honor of Clarence Freeman, a pioneering black
businessman, contractor and developer who was born in 1916 in a
house previously located in the proximity of the project.
Located in the
Davenport Historic District, Freeman Center showcase's the integration
of cutting edge technology and historic renovation.
